Everest’s Lonely North Side Summited Today

The team from Furtenbach Adventures summited Everest this morning after a lonely climb on the North Side. Previously acclimatized and using supplementary oxygen, they completed their expedition in just 11 days.

The team, led by Furtenbach, reached the top at 4:20 am.

“We had perfect conditions and the mountain to ourselves,” wrote Lukas Furtenbach. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and not many people will experience an empty Everest ever again.”

The chaotic images from the South Side render his comment especially significant.

The start of the expedition was difficult, as the delay permits for Tibet only came through on May 9. The team entered Tibet on May 12.

The Climbalaya team goes next. They confirmed to ExplorersWeb that they are heading for the summit tonight.
