Events planned for Mental Health Awareness Month

Kern Behavioral Health and Recovery Services is putting on a variety of events in May for Mental Health Awareness Month. They include:

• The Kern County Administrative Office will be illuminated with lime green lights throughout May to raise awareness for mental health.

• Saturday, Family Day at CALM: Free admission at the California Living Museum from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with coloring stations, Mother’s Day card opportunities, laughing yoga, Polynesian dance performances and more.

• May 10, KernBHRS Inspiration Awards: Recognizing people behind stories of hope and resilience, 10 a.m. to noon at KernBHRS’ Westchester location.

• May 15, grand opening of the KernBHRS Psychiatric Health Facility: After a morning grand opening ceremony, the new facility will be open to the public for guided tours from 1 to 7 p.m. at 702 Workman St.

• May 22, food and fan distribution: KernBHRS and The Applecore Project to distribute food and fans to those in need at 3 p.m. at 616 Grace St.

• May 24, community Narcan training: Partnering with Kern County Public Health, KernBHRS’ Prevention team will offer free Narcan training at 10 a.m. at KernBHRS’ Westchester location.
