Even Land Cruisers Get Stuck

If you’ve never gotten stuck while off-roading, just go out enough and give it time, because it happens to everyone sooner or later. Even the mightiest of rigs with the most skilled drivers can get in over their head, making a rescue necessary. But there are plenty of guys who claim theirs is the exception.

Among them are a fair number of Toyota Land Cruiser owners. There’s no doubt about it, the Land Cruiser is an awesome off-road rig, even right out of the box. Modified, they can really rumble on the trails. But as this recovery video shows, they can also get stuck.
For some, having to be recovered is a humbling process, especially if the person needing the rescue has bragged about never getting stuck before. In this case, having a guy in a Jeep recover the Land Cruiser might add some insult to injury, just like if the roles were reversed.
While this is a professional recovery, everyone who off-roads needs to remember the code and always help out others when they get stuck. Some might decide to razz the other party a little if they have a different brand rig or it’s from another production generation – we’ll let everyone debate if that’s proper or not – but you still help another off-roader out when they’re in need.
Of course, you need the proper equipment to effectively and safely recover vehicles, especially when mud is involved, like in this video. The Toyota owner tried using traction matts, and we know those are controversial equipment, but we agree with the philosophy that if those get you out you weren’t truly stuck.
With some wench work the Land Cruiser was easy to pull out of the mud’s suction. This just proves it’s usually a matter of having the right equipment to make a successfully recovery, although knowing how to use it sure helps as well.
