Evansville will open 3 city pools this summer. Here's where, when you'll be able to swim

EVANSVILLE — City pools will open June 1 in Evansville, with three locations currently being prepped to welcome community members.

Here's everything you need to know.

Which Evansville pools will be open this summer?

Lorraine Pool (2399 Adams Ave.), Mosby Pool (1045 S. Barker Ave.) and Rochelle-Landers Pool (701 Lincoln Ave.) will all open June 1.

When will Evansville pools be open?

Mosby and Rochelle-Landers will be open from June 1 through July 28.

The pools will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Lorraine will open June 1 and close August 4.

Lorraine will be open seven days a week this year from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

What is the cost to use Evansville's pools?

Cost for all three locations:

  • Ages 3 and younger: Free

  • Ages 4-12: $1

  • Ages 13 and older: $2

Will there be swim lessons this year?

Swim lessons will take place at all three pools, Tuesday-Friday, beginning June 11.

Lessons at Lorraine are free this year, and lessons at Rochelle and Mosby are $40 per participant, per lesson.

Sign-ups will take place at the pools starting on opening day. Advanced registration is required, and sign-ups are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Will there be city swim teams in Evansville?

Yes, swim team practices will begin June 4 and registration is already open online.

Rochelle-Landers, Mosby, Lorraine, Helfrich and Lloyd pools will each have swim teams. Each team will meet at their own pools, except Lloyd and Helfrich.

Lloyd and Helfrich teams will practice at the Deaconess Aquatic Center in the mornings, and Rochelle-Landers will practice there in the evenings.

Practices are Tuesday through Friday each week.

Families needing financial assistance to join the swim team should register at the pools, not online.

Will there be family night events at the Evansville pools?

Family nights at the pools will take place on:

  • Mosby - Wednesdays

  • Rochelle - Thursdays

  • Lorraine - Fridays

On those nights, two adults and four children can swim for $5 from 6 to 8 p.m.

How can I help make sure everyone who wants to can swim this summer?

The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library is highlighting the city pools and Burdette pool as a part of its Seasons of Sharing program.

Through May 31, all library locations are taking donations of various items that families and individuals will be able to use to visit local pools.

Here's what can be donated:

  • New (with tags) brightly-colored swimwear for all ages

  • Swim diapers

  • Flip-flops

  • Goggles

  • Unopened sunscreen

  • Beach towels

Lifeguards still needed for city pools

The parks department is fully staffed on pool managers, cashiers and head lifeguards, but needs about 10 more lifeguards to be fully staffed at all three pools.

Lifeguard pay is $12.50 an hour.
