Amy's on Franklin to close, rebrand at end of April

Amy’s on Franklin will close, according to a post on the Facebook page, at the end of April, to renovate before reopening as Bad Randy’s Hot Chicken and BBQ Lounge. The restaurant has shared that it is hiring servers, dishwashers, and potentially a cook for Bad Randy's.

Amy's on Franklin, and soon Bad Randy's Hot Chicken & BBQ Lounge, is at 1418 W. Franklin St.; 812-401-2332.

Patsy Hartigan's Pop-up Pub

The Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana will host a pop up pub on the roof with Patsy Hartigan's Irish Pub on Thursday, May 2, from 5:30-7 p.m. Guests will enjoy small bites and learn to craft two two signature cocktails: a classic Irish Coffee with Irish whiskey and another surprise drink from the Hartigan's menu. Tickets are $50 per person. Proceeds benefit the Art's Council's programming.

Dewig Meats Customer Appreciation

Dewig Meats in Haubstadt will host a customer appreciation day on Saturday, May 4, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Stop in for games, giveaways, savings, prizes, fresh barbeque, grilled bologna sandwiches, bratwurst, hot dogs and ice cream.

Derby Day food and races at Germania

The Evansville Germania Maennerchor will present Derby Day Food & Horse Races on Saturday, May 4, from noon-6 p.m. Smoked ribs and chicken lunches will be $14 and include American potato salad, baked beans, creamy cole slaw, bread, pickle and onion. The food will be sold from noon until it is gone. Advance orders and payment for whole slabs of ribs ($27) and half chickens ($7) may be made at the Germania Bar. These must be picked up between noon and 2 p.m. on May 4. There will be a half pot, raffle, and hat contest.

First Fridays begin

The first First Friday of 2024 will happen on Friday, May 3, from 5:30-9 p.m. at Haynie's Corner. There will be live entertainment, art vendors, and food trucks including Taco Bar, Lashbrooke's Barbecue, Rock-A-Burger, Barrel House, Jeanne's Gelato on the Go, and Chino Taco. Haynie's Corner bars and restaurants will be serving as always, and there is a new kids' area on Washington Avenue.

Newburgh Beer & Wine Festival

The Historic Newburgh Beer & Wine Festival will be held on Saturday, May 4, from 1-8 p.m. at The Old Lock and Dam Park in Newburgh. Enjoy live music, food trucks, a Derby-themed raffle, sample local beer and wine, purchase mixed drinks, watch the Kentucky Derby live on screen and much more. Tickets are $25 when purchased online.

Mother's Day Brunch at ONEP

The Old National Events Plaza will offer a Mothers' Day brunch on Sunday, May 12, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. On the buffet will be breakfast offerings including scrambled eggs and breakfast meats, hashbrown casserole, pastries and fruit, shrimp cocktail, omelet and waffle stations, a salad bar, fried chicken, pork tenderloin, southern vegetable sides, a beef carving station, and a kids' buffet. Tickets are $38 for adults, and $15 for kids ages 3-12. Add bottomless mimosas or bloody marys for $10.

Spirits on the Green

Spirits on the Green will happen at Helfrich Golf Course on Sunday, May 5, from 4-7 p.m. Participants will enjoy dinner from La Campirana, unlimited beer and wine, and live music. There will be a silent auction this year. Tickets are $25 when purchased in advance or $30 at the door. Must be 21 to attend. Proceeds benefit the Evansville Parks Foundation.

The Helfrich Golf Course is at 1550 Mesker Park Drive.

Taste of the Fest

The Taste of the Fest hosted by the Catalyst Church Evansville will happen from Thursday, May 2 through Saturday, May 4, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. each day. Five non-profit organizations will be gathering to set up their West Side Nut Club Fall Festival booths for one three-day event, vending their traditional Festival menus. Look for Amvets with steak sandwiches and more, Catalyst Church with deep fried goodies, Grace of Christ Mission in Ukraine with Ukrainian specialties, the Outboard Boating Club with BBQ Pork Parfait, and The Gathering Church with funnel fries and more.
