In 1994, the human world enjoyed a blissful introduction to the somewhat more intoxicating world of Neon Genesis Evangelion. The original manga series gave way to an anime in the following year—one that has sustained as a cherished favorite ever since. About a decade on, Neon Genesis Evangelion returned to the screen in the form of an extended collection of films, dubbed Rebuild of Evangelion. In 2007, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone released in Japan, finding North American release two years later. Over the next few years, we got Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance and Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo. And then…we waited. It wasn’t until this year that the fourth and final film, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, found Japanese release. And now, it’ll make its way to overseas viewers by way of Amazon Prime.

The conglomerate announced on Thursday that Thrice Upon a Time will release exclusively on Amazon Prime on August 13. (And it appears as though they’ve added an extra .01 to the title, interestingly.) Along with the news comes a trailer for the film, which you can check out right here:

The varied styles of animation shown off in the trailer all look stunning. Plus, the trailer’s lilting tune reminds us of the series’ invigorating relationship with its musical accompaniment. This peek has us excited for something tough, tender, and endlessly imaginative.
