Eva Mendes Posted a Makeup-Free Selfie, Even Though She Hates Selfies

Her fans can't get over how amazing her skin looks.

Despite the opprobrium they've attracted in the smartphone era, there's nothing inherently wrong with selfies. (Allure digital makeup editor Sable Yong did a top-notch job explaining why.) But even if you're quick to double-tap other people's selfies in your Instagram feed, some of us can't help but feel totally awkward taking and posting our own — and Eva Mendes is one of those people.

Most of the photos Mendes posts of herself on Instagram have been taken by professional photographers within the context of her career; a selfie taken in her everyday life is a rarity. And she explained why in the caption of the one she reluctantly posted on Saturday. "I just can’t do it. I just can’t seriously take a selfie," she wrote. "So for those who’ve asked, here you go and I’m sorry. And for the others who never asked for this, I’m sorry too. #NoFilterNoPersonality"

Despite the self-deprecating caption, fans loved Mendes's selfie — especially because she appears to be wearing no makeup in the photo, letting her naturally stunning skin show. "I like your natural look. You look amazing 😘," one follower wrote, which was echoed by a fan who said, "Love your skin!! You’re beautiful as ever ❤️❤️," and another who asked what we're all thinking: "Beautiful skin! What is your skincare routine?" Yet another commenter simply said, "U look 14" about the 45-year-old actor, and even Liv Tyler chimed in with "Pretty skin!!!😍😍😍😍😍”

Other fans expressed how relatable it is to not feel comfortable turning their phone's front-facing lens on themselves. "I thought I was the only one.. can’t take a selfie if my life depend on it. 😩😂," one shared, while another said, "I feel the same! I take a selfie and then delete it."

Although smartphone self-portraits are rare for Mendes, she has posted a few before. Check out some of her past selfies.
