Eva Mendes Gushes Over Ryan Gosling: He’s the “Greatest Actor I’ve Ever Worked With”

Ahead of the release of his highly anticipated new movie, Eva Mendes is looking back at her origin story with husband Ryan Gosling.

In an Instagram post shared yesterday, Mendes uploaded stills from The Place Beyond the Pines, the 2012 crime drama in which she and Gosling costarred; they first met while filming the movie. “Mi Hombre. Mi Vida,” Mendes captioned the throwback photos. “To say he’s the greatest actor I’ve ever worked with is an understatement.”

Included in the post was a quote about Gosling from Greta Gerwig, who directed his performance in the forthcoming Barbie, in which he plays Ken opposite Margot Robbie as the world-famous titular Mattel doll. “It’s some combination of Marlon Brando meets Gene Wilder meets John Barrymore meets John Travolta,” reads Gerwig’s quote, pulled from a recent interview with Rolling Stone.

Mendes nodded to Gerwig’s glowing comments in the caption, adding, “Gracias to the brilliant & beautiful Greta Gerwig @rollingstone.”

Mendes and Gosling have largely kept their relationship out of the spotlight since they started dating in 2011. They have two daughters: eight-year-old Esmerelda Amada and seven-year-old Amada Lee. Last year, Mendes confirmed to fans that she and Gosling are married.

“I have always had a clear boundary when it comes to my man and my kids. I’ll talk about them of course, with limits, but I won’t post pictures of our daily life,” she wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post in 2020. “Since my children are still so little and don’t understand what posting their image really means, I don’t have their consent. And I won’t post their image until they’re old enough to give me consent.”
