Eva Mendes Added Sweet Strawberry Highlights to Her Brown Hair for Summer

They're so cute, too.

It seems like every time there's a brunette hair transformation, the finished product is ultra-blonde. There's nothing wrong with being blonde, of course, but brown hair is gorgeous and sometimes you just want a subtle update that'll make a big difference. It's not about looking like a totally different person. Take Eva Mendes's new hair, for instance. Instead of doing the obvious blonde highlights for summer, Mendes tried a warm strawberry hue and the results are gorgeous and seriously unique.

The color comes courtesy of hairstylist Mikey Lorenzano, who told Allure he wanted to create something bright and fresh for summer on Mendes. He used Goldwell Color in Neutral Light Blonde mixed with the Light Red Beech shade to bring out the warm hues in Mendes's color. He toned her hair with Goldwell Colorance Extra Light Copper Gold mixed with Clear to make the hue multidimensional. "The inspiration was sort of a '90s supermodel feel and also something that just pops in the sunlight," Lorenzano explained.

Oh, and it definitely is gorgeous in the sun, as Mendes demonstrated, adding a photo of the new look to Instagram with the caption: "Strawberry feels forever." She also made sure fans knew there's no filter on this pretty hue.

Mendes has had reddish-brown hair before, but this is the first time it's looked so, as Lorenzano said, multidimensional. It's a more modern take on red hair and a fresh way to try bright highlights that aren't too blonde. The upkeep also isn't crazy (just a color gloss every month or so) and she still looks like herself — just a bit sunnier.

Fans are loving her new look based on the 90k likes, heart emojis, and "I would die to look like her" comments. We have a feeling this is going to be a shade requested at hair salons all through spring and summer.
