Two Hollywood powerhouses, Eva Longoria and America Ferrera, showed their support for one another and for women around the world Thursday night at the 2023 Women in Film Honors.
The event, which highlights outstanding women in the entertainment industry, marked its 50th anniversary this year. Actors, directors, and producers from around the world came together at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood for the occasion—many walking the red carpet for the first time since the SAG-AFTRA strike began.
The 2023 honorees included actors Longoria, Ferrera, Greta Lee, and Yara Shahidi, as well as director and producer Linda Yvette Chávez and writer and director Celine Song.
Longtime friends Longoria and Ferrera affectionately embraced as they met on the red carpet—each in a striking gown that epitomized each woman’s personal style.
Desperate Housewives star Longoria dazzled in a golden semi-sheer turtleneck midi dress embellished with tiny clear crystals all over. She styled it simply with silky gold-tone platform sandals and dangly diamond earrings. Her glittery, bronzy makeup, glossy lip, and baby-pink manicure melded perfectly with the hues of her holiday party dress. Her hair was down in silky waves.
Longoria, Lee, Song, and Linda Yvette Chávez were honored with the Crystal Award for Advocacy, for their impact on the industry and the work they’ve done to empower others.
Ferrera put her own cool spin on Barbie-core in an asymmetrical powdery-pink bodycon dress. The piece featured a mock neck, long sleeves, and ruched detailing that created unexpected patterns all over. Ferrera wore the piece with chunky black platform boots, a small black leather handbag, diamond drop earrings, and some gold rings. She kept her glam classic with a slicked-back bun, subtle black liner, rosy cheeks, and a bold red lip.
Ferrera plays Gloria, a Mattel employee and devoted mom, in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. While the actor has been in Hollywood for years, since gaining notoriety in the 2000s as the star of ABC’s Ugly Betty, her incredibly moving speech in the hit summer film has brought her back into the spotlight as the strong, feminist Latina force she has always been. She was awarded the Jane Fonda Humanitarian Award at last night’s event for being a trailblazer in the industry.
“To be seen and to be acknowledged by someone who’s such a legend and who has done so many of the things that I too am doing and aspire to do as a producer, a director, an actress, and an advocate—it really is an incredible moment of just being seen by a woman that I admire and respect so much,” Ferrera said, adding that it is women like Fonda who keep her inspired in what she does. “It’s all about other people. And for me, in particular, it’s other women.”
