Europe's First Underwater Restaurant Looks Seriously Cool
Restaurant with a seaside view? Yawn. For a next-level dining experience, we’re heading beneath the waves to Norway’s soon-to-be incredible underwater restaurant.
The sci-fi looking establishment, called Under, will be built on the southernmost point of the Norwegian coastline and feature three levels plus a gigantic panoramic window looking out onto the seabed. It will also double as a marine life research center.
Diners will enter on the coastal level, according to Snøhetta, the architecture and design firm behind the project. From there, guests can stop at the Champagne bar one level below (don’t mind if we do) before heading down to the seabed-level dining room with a 36-foot-wide panoramic window.
“The dining room is submerged in darker blue and green colors inspired by the seabed, seaweed and rough sea,” the firm says on its site. “The warm oak of the restaurant interior contrasts with the rough concrete shell, creating an intimate atmosphere. Materials are chosen not only for their aesthetic qualities but also for their sustainable characteristics and ability to create a good indoor climate.” Sign. Us. Up.
The restaurant will accommodate 80 to 100 guests and is expected to open in early 2019. There’s no word yet on what the menu will be, but we’re betting on a whole lot of seafood. BRB, booking our flight to Norway ASAP.
