The Season 2 finale of Euphoria was one of the most explosive episodes yet. We finally got to see the ending of Lexi’s play, although it’s loudly interrupted by Cassie storming the stage. Fez and Ashtray had an emotional and shocking resolution to their season-long struggle to cover up Mouse’s murder. And Rue divulges her post-sobriety interaction with Elliot, who ratted her out to Jules, who then ratted her out to her mother.

Since Rue’s intervention back in episode 5, it’s alluded to that she’s getting sober, and working on getting her life back on track. She’s apologized to her family and Ali, and is trying to show up for people she’s neglected, like Lexi. And in the finale, we learn she also visited Elliot sometime before Lexi’s play and revealed she forgives him for breaking her trust.

Elliot responds with… a song. Titled “Elliot’s Song,” and written by Labrinth and Zendaya, Dominic Fike (who plays Elliot) serenades both Zendaya and the viewers in what’s meant to be a heartfelt moment. Plus, according to his recent Tonight Show appearance, “Elliot’s Song” is also an upcoming Fike song yet to be released. On Twitter though, the reaction was anything but positive.

Viewers mostly wanted to get back to the mounting action involving Fez and Ashtray or Cassie and Maddy.

Then again, it wasn't like anyone hated the actual song, they just wanted to get back to the good ol' teen drama we know and love. Maybe fans will warm up to Elliot's musical prowess in Season 3?
