We still have a ways to go until Euphoria’s highly anticipated second season, but there’s some good news in store for fans: the HBO series recently added three brand-new characters to the lineup.
Deadline reports that actors Dominic Fike, Minka Kelly and Demetrius ‘Lil Meech’ Flenory Jr. will be joining the cast for the show’s second season, which is expected to premiere either later this year or in early 2022. While little is known about these three new roles (and Season 2 in general), Deadline adds that at least one of the recently added characters will likely be recurring.
In an interview with Variety, Dominic painted his character as a “homie” who spends time with Rue (Zendaya) and Jules (Hunter Schafer), adding that both actors are “the nicest people ever.” Euphoria is the 25-year-old’s first acting role; he is primarily known for his music, and described the process of filming the HBO series as “a long music video.”
Dominic added that he previously auditioned for Euphoria and made it to the final round before the character he was vying for was written out of the show. HBO reportedly reached out again this year, leaving Dominic with a role that he said reminds him of himself. “I don’t have to do much acting,” the performer told Variety. “He’s exactly like me. It’s sh*t I would say and sh*t I would do.”
Like many other television shows and movies, Euphoria’s second season was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The series hit pause on filming back in March 2020, and later returned with two special “bridge” episodes, one featuring Rue and the other focusing on Jules. While much of Season 2 remains a mystery, fans and cast alike are looking forward to the return of the popular HBO series. In a recent interview with IndieWire, Hunter Schafer also reflected on what’s to come for her character, sharing her hopes and dreams for Jules in the story that lies ahead. “[I hope] this growth and interrogation of Jules…and what she wants and ultimately finding newer and healthier intimacies in her relationships, which I hope will be more queer and more healthy…[I hope] that will continue.”
