Estrela Mountain Dog Instinctively 'Herds' Toddler So She Doesn't Wander Off

Dogs are instinctively protective. There's no question about that. If you're part of the family, they'll do whatever they can to keep you safe. And yes, that's even the case for the little ones. Heck, we think they might be even more protective of kids.

TikTok user @von.jakoba captured the most precious moment of their Estrela Mountain Dog 'herding' a toddler so she didn't wander off. Not only is this video beyond adorable, but it's also further proof that we truly don't deserve dogs.

O.M.G. Stop it! Whenever we think about the saying, "A dog is a man's best friend," we'll be thinking of this video. Or maybe the saying should say, "A dog is a baby's best friend." LOL! If this video is melting our hearts, we can't even imagine how the parents felt. They're probably comforted by the fact that their good boy Roman won't let anything happen to their toddler.

"He's on training duty too, 'Watch and learn boys, this is how you do it. Remember boys, be gentle,'" commented @bien_h. Ugh, this just brought out all the tears. Roman is prepping all the puppies to also look after this little girl. Does it get any more adorable than that?!

With many families having both pets and tiny humans running around, it's important to note the difference between whether or not your dog's love for a newborn is obsession or protection. A dog's obsession with a baby can be dangerous and should be addressed. Common signs of obsessive behavior include constant barking, whining, or following the baby around. Protective behavior is natural and is seen as beneficial for families.
