THE ESSENTIAL TECH KIT: OUTDOOR DATE NIGHT

It’s more doable for them than for most. The creative couple shuttles between Manhattan and the Jersey Shore, where they’ve got a place in Long Branch. Ditella admits it can be hard to carve out a space on the beach in the summer. End of the day or early fall is easier; either way, securing a little corner of sandy beach for a date is always worth the effort.

“Sometimes we like a crowd of friends,” Ditella says. “But with our schedules being so busy lately, we’ve been making more of an effort to make it just the two of us.” Though it’s a romantic recharge, it’s not a total unplug. Prepping and experiencing these interludes can be more seamless with the right tech components—and Verizon is the place to get them.

For Ditella and his wife, the basic ingredients are: “Food, good wine, and somewhere with some solitude,” he says. And one other big thing: music. On a recent outing, he tucked a JBL Charge 3 speaker into the picnic basket so they could stream classic blues and soul throughout the date. Since it’s waterproof, he wasn’t worried about a rainout or getting too close to the waves.

Although he’s basically a local, there are still some beach spots that even Ditella hasn’t hit yet. Set on trying a new location, he uses his Fitbit Versa at the town market for some last-minute purchases (including flowers). While he’s not tracking his steps tonight, Ditella’s Versa works with his style, serves as his GPS, and even lets him skip the wallet in favor of contactless Fitbit Pay.

Meanwhile, a mophie powerstation plus 6000 kept their smartphones humming. After all, streaming music and documenting the whole sunset spread for social media consumes precious phone juice.

An OtterBox Symmetry Case from Verizon kept Ditella’s phone protected from sand and other mishaps. “No one wants to go drop a grand on a new phone because they didn’t have a case on their old one,” he notes. And a case that’s stylish enough to complement his classic, leather-trim picnic basket? Even better.

The flower shop and the grocery store are no-brainers. But there’s music, navigation, tech protection, and more to think of. For a guy planning an outdoor date, an advance browse through Verizon for the best tech gear is sure to keep the details running smoothly.
