The Essential Spring Jacket That Goes With Everything—and I Do Mean Everything—in Your Wardrobe

Talk to any chore coat evangelist—me, in this particular instance—and they'll tell you that the first time they ever put one on, it was a revelation. Boxy and comfy, but also a little bit blazer-y if you squint and look at it in the right light, it's the kind of light outerwear option that magically seems to work with everything. And I do mean everything. Sweats, of course. But also jeans and a T-shirt or even trousers and a shirt shirt (you know, with a collar). The chore coat is friends with all of 'em. And now, if you haven't yet made its acquaintance, it would like to be friends with you, too.

As with any classic piece of menswear, chore coat options abound. But today we're talking about Everlane's chore coat, because it just released and is already selling like hotcakes. The brand calls it a chore jacket, which is actually kind of correct because chore coats really are more like jackets than coats, but I'm going to keep saying "chore coat" because that's what we evangelist weirdos call 'em. (Semantics! Always a party!)

Anyways, Everlane's latest addition to the canon is cut from denim, which isn't a game-changing move so much as a nice update for a garment that's usually done in canvas. It has a little stretch, so you can move in it. And instead of the bog-standard "three outer pockets, one inner pocket" setup, it features a fourth outer flap pocket. Same total storage, but a bit more of a contemporary vibe (plus a little extra security from the flap).

Should you be in need of a new spring jacket—and aren't we all always in need of a new spring jacket?—this one is going to serve you well. It's light enough to transition into the warmer weather, but sturdy enough that you won't start shivering when the wind kicks up. Plus, it's denim. And who doesn't love a denim jacket? (One shudders to think of such a nefarious character.)

The only catch? Well, like I said, it's moving fast. And I don't want you to miss out. Hence this whole exercise in chore coat evangelism. Come on over. Join the party. I promise you: It's better here.
