Dick Vitale shared some heartbreaking news.

The ESPN broadcaster made a statement on social media announcing that, unfortunately, he has cancer again.

He wrote, "I'm sorry to share that I received tough news today from Dr. Zeitels about my throat. The tests on the tissues they removed showed that I have vocal cord cancer and will need 6 weeks of radiation to treat it. Dr. Z tells me that it has an extremely high cure rate, and that radiation, not more surgery, is the best path."

The TV personality is keeping an optimistic outlook, adding, "I plan to fight like hell to be ready to call games when the college hoops season tips off in the Fall. Dr. Z feels that scenario is entirely possible."

Vitale also thanked fans for their support, sharing, "I want to say that I have been so touched by the tweets, texts, notes, and prayers, and will ask all of you to continue to send positive vibes."

The 84-year-old noted that last summer, he had asked for support while battling cancer, and now he finds himself in the same position: "This time last year, I was on the ESPYS stage, asking everyone to help in the cancer fight. This terrible disease strikes so many of our loved ones, and it's now knocked on my door three different times."

The sportscaster ended his statement, writing, "I'm grateful for my immediate family as well as my ESPN family for their incredible support, and so appreciative of the outstanding team of medical experts whose dedication has such a positive impact on so many lives. Love to all!"

He captioned the image featuring the statement, "I am sharing my update from meeting with Dr ZEITELS - I faced Melanoma - Lymphoma & won the battle & I plan on winning the battle vs vocal cord surgery . All of u that have sent 🙏🙏🙏 & ❤️❤️❤️r #awesomebaby."

Days before, Vitale shared that he had surgery to remove vocal cord tissues that would be analyzed by pathologists, which would show if he has cancer and what the best course of treatment would be.

In 2021, the sports analyst was diagnosed with both melanoma and lymphoma. The melanoma was successfully removed in surgery, and the lymphoma was treated with chemotherapy for six months. Last August, he announced that he was in remission.
