Errol Spence Jr. expected to make a full recovery after horrifying auto accident
Errol Spence Jr. is an incredibly lucky young man. The WBC/IBF welterweight champion was involved in a frightening single-car auto accident early Thursday near downtown Dallas, but according to a statement from his management team, he escaped with no broken bones.
Spence’s Ferrari bounced end-over-end down the street before crashing. Spence, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. Dallas police said the car was traveling at a high rate of speed just prior to 3 a.m. local time, but have not determined a cause for the accident.

Spence, though, appears to have dodged a major bullet. He is awake and responsive and now in stable condition, improved from when he arrived in serious condition.

“Errol Spence Jr., IBF/WBC unified welterweight world champion, was involved in a serious, single-car accident in Dallas early Thursday morning and is being treated at a Dallas-area hospital. Spence is awake and responding and his condition is listed as stable. He did not sustain any broken bones or fractures, but has some facial lacerations. He is expected to make a full recovery.
He is currently resting with his family by his side. They want to thank everyone for their prayers and well wishes and are extremely grateful to the Dallas first responders who rushed to the scene to attend to Errol after the accident and the doctors who are taking care of him at the hospital.”
Spence, 29, is one of the pound-for-pound best fighters in the world. He is 26-0 with 21 knockouts after scoring a stirring split-decision victory over Shawn Porter on Sept. 28 in Los Angeles in what is a contender for Fight of the Year. Spence scored an 11th round knockdown to seal the victory.
A 2012 U.S. Olympian, Spence has long been regarded as one of the elite talents in the sport. He made his pay-per-view debut in Arlington, Texas, in March when he whitewashed Mikey Garcia in front of 47,525 fans at AT&T Stadium.
