Erika Christensen Loves 80s Beauty

Erika Christensen has been in front of the camera since the 90s. During her film debut in Leave It To Beaver, she looked like the girl next door. On the Swimfan screen, her style became a tad darker (thanks to her crazy/obsessive character). As an All-American girl (and over-achiever), she kept her makeup her conservative for The Perfect Score — and during the TV show Parenthood, too. So far, her well-known roles have maintained modern-day looks — but not for much longer.

With a new TV show, Wicked City, premiering in October, and an HBO movie coming down the pipeline, she’s getting to try out different roles – which means throwback 80s beauty styles. “The super bright lip colors are back. The hot coral and hot pink are great,” says the actress who recently partnered with another recently revamped 80s favorite, Lean Cuisine. “It’s interesting because at that time, [hair] was not about shine. It was about texture and volume. I have little bangs – little tiny bangs – just paper thin, that I have for the 1980s thing.”

Christensen is equally happy to delve into 90s beauty looks in a new HBO film set in 1991. “Confirmation is the movie I’m super proud to be a part of,“ says Christensen, adding. "I’ve been all over that hair zone.” With cast members like Kerry Washington, Christensen is excited to enact the story of Anita Hill testifying against Clarence Thomas when he was being appointed to the Supreme Court.

Though she loves trying on throwback looks for a role, don’t expect Christensen to revisit her own – personal – fashion faux pas. “The fashion ones are pretty bad for me. There are photos of me with my PONY trucker hat, sideways. Truly, awesomely, horrible,” says Christensen. “I went through a big eyebrows-up-to-here [points to middle of forehead] phase, which I’m glad is over. They’re perfect for a drag queen, but they’re not perfect for me.”
