Each Episode of "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series" Contains "High School Musical" Easter Eggs

We’re soaring, we’re rewatching every episode.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is set to make its Disney+ debut, and while the spinoff will be different from the OG Disney Channel film, there is a major surprise in store for fans.

Each episode of the show, which premiered on Freeform last night ahead of a Disney+ premiere on November 12, will contain a reference to the HSM movie. The HSM:TM:TS showrunner Tim Federle confirmed the plan in an interview to Entertainment Weekly, explaining, "I was always thinking about the original fans, whose childhood I promise I’m not trying to ruin. Every episode should contain Easter eggs and callbacks and references to the original, whether it be with a wink to a prop that pops up on screen or a cameo from an original cast member — which I can confirm happens, I just can’t say who or when. But it’s a fresh start and brand-new cast, and I want to tell stories that went totally outside the High School Musical universe and engage people in a new way.”

Although the Easter eggs remain a secret, for now, some of the newest HSM stars expressed a similar hope regarding honoring the franchise. “We pay homage and we have references to the original movie but it's so different,” Sofia Wylie said. “We're able to create a show that is so much a part of my childhood but it's also going to be a part of my adulthood, and it's also going to be the way for a new generation too.”

In addition to some hidden HSM clues, the Disney+ show will also feature new versions of classic HSM hits, including “Breaking Free,” “We’re All In This Together,” and “Stick to the Status Quo."

Fans will have to stay tuned to see what other surprises might be in store, but the show already earned the approval of some familiar faces. Both Corin Bleu and Kenny Ortega had shared their excitement for the series at the D23 Expo.
