Epic Games Store's Latest Anime Game Will Haunt You For Free

It has been a hot minute since we got a great game for free from the Epic Games Store, but this week aims to change that. Do you fancy yourself an anime game with cute girls to reminisce about your high school days? Epic Games has heard you and is giving away Doki Doki Literature Club Plus for free this week, along with Lost Castle.
“Write poems for your crush and experience the terror of school romance in this critically-acclaimed psychological horror story,” reads the game’s description and yes, you read that right — Doki Doki Literature Club may look like a game you’d want to hide from your games library, but it hides a dark secret. Granted, it’s a secret that catapulted the game to viral success, but it’s still a special game that deserves your attention if you’re a newcomer.

Doki Doki Literature Club is a visual novel, so gameplay choices are limited to selecting dialogue choices. That’s not to say that the game isn’t interesting. You craft poems and change the flow of the narrative as you form bonds with its characters. You’ll quickly find that each of the characters is battling their inner demons, with the game veering into some disturbing territory quite fast.
Epic Games’ giveaway is a special version of DDLC, including six new side stories, thirteen additional music tracks and new unlockable wallpapers. The Plus version also features HD artwork so Sayori, Natsuki and your other friends can look their best selves.
If forming disturbing relationships with cute anime girls isn’t your thing, then Lost Castle’s beat 'em-up action will have you covered. It’s an action RPG with roguelike elements where you traverse its randomized dungeons with up to four friends in co-op. It may not look that original, but it’s hard to complain about when it’s free. It also did well enough to warrant a sequel, so have at it!
