Enoki Mushrooms Are Being Recalled Nationwide Due To Listeria-Related Concerns

Select mushroom products are being recalled nationwide after routine testing found traces of Listeria. Guan's Mushroom Co. of California announced the recall of 7.05-ounce packages of their enoki mushrooms that were distributed from three states.

Enoki mushrooms are long and thin and are often used in dishes like soups, noodles, stir-frys, and salads. The issue was noted when the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development conducted a routine check-up and found Listeria in the enoki mushroom packages.

Listeria infection can lead to adverse effects, especially in young children, elderly individuals, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women. It can also affect healthy individuals with short-term symptoms like high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. At the time of publication, no illnesses or infections related to the enoki mushroom recall have been reported by the Food & Drug Administration.

If you happen to have Guan's Mushroom Co. packages of 7.05-ounce (200 grams) enoki mushrooms in your possession, you, as always in these situations, should not consume them and instead dispose of them immediately. The packages have "Enoki Mushroom” written on them in English, Korean, and French, and the products were distributed from California, New York, and Pennsylvania to retailers nationwide.
