Empire State Building Gets a Makeover for 'Mean Girls' Day

"On Oct. 3, he asked me what day it was."

It's one of the most iconic days of the year in pop culture, and the Empire State Building is celebrating alongside the rest of us!

Every Oct. 3 since 2004 has been recognized as Mean Girls Day thanks to the hit film from Tina Fey starring Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdamsLacey Chabert and Amanda Seyfried

"On Oct. 3, he asked me what day it was," Lohan's character said of her crush in a voiceover. "It's Oct. 3," she answered out loud. It quickly took off as a fan-favorite quote, sparking memes and custom merch. 

This year, the Empire State Building—which is known to change the color of its lights to reflect a variety of different holidays and other occasions—got in on the celebration, lighting up a bright shade of hot pink in honor of the date. 

Their official Twitter account shared a photo taken by Inga Sarda-Sorensenwhich showed the one-time tallest building in the world lit so brightly pink that the night sky glowed the same shade around it, captioning it with a simple reminder: "It's October 3rd"

The viral team behind the landmark's TikTok account also shared a fun video to mark the day, lipsyncing to the famous movie scene.

The besties then reenacted the brief scene, much to the delight of their followers, who spammed the comments with additional film quotes and references.
