Emmys 2020: Black Women Dominate the ‘Lead Actress in a Limited Series’ Category
The Emmys 2020 nominations are officially out—and Black actors are dominating several major categories. Most notably is the outstanding lead actress in a limited series group, which includes Regina King (Watchmen), Octavia Spencer (Self Made), and Kerry Washington (Little Fires Everywhere). One fan wrote on Twitter, “3 out 5 of the actresses for limited series are Black,” while another posted, “The Black excellence is tangible.”
It’s visible beyond the Limited Series category, as well. This year’s Emmy nominations see big moments for Zendaya (Euphoria), Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish), Issa Rae (Insecure), Don Cheadle (Black Monday), Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us), Anthony Anderson (Black-ish), and Billy Porter (Pose). All received acting nominations in their respective genre categories. A Black Lady Sketch Show also received a nomination for best variety sketch series. This marks Zendaya’s first-ever nomination, and the internet is thrilled about it.

Of course, there were some noticeable snubs, particularly Angelica Ross, Indya Moore, Hailie Sahar, Dominique Jackson, and MJ Rodriguez for Pose:
