Emmys 2017: Rachel Bloom Purchased Her Gucci Dress Because Designers Weren't Eager to Dress Her

Rachel Bloom bought her own dress for Sunday night’s 2017 Emmy Awards because not enough designers took note— a tale we have, unfortunately, heard before. Though the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend actress stunned in a black lace-and-silk gown by Gucci, it was not leant to her by the design house’s press team, nor pulled from a showroom by a stylist. Instead, she spent her own $3,500 on the dress in a boutique.

Rachel revealed this fact on the red carpet during an interview with Giuliana Rancic on E!. When Giuliana asked if she was going to keep anything she was wearing from the evening (as designers often gift their red carpet creations to celebrities), Rachel replied, “Well, I bought this — Gucci’s not lending me a dress.” She went on to say, “Sometime it’s hard to get places to lend me dresses because I’m not a size zero,” though being sure to add, “But also, I can afford it, so it’s ok.”

Getting Rachel’s dress might be easier than ever before, though, because the actress then stated, “But also, I can always re-sell it on The Real Real…So take a look at The Real Real…”

Before the world gets upset at Gucci, Rachel tweeted out a clarification, writing, “To be clear: We didn’t ask Gucci to dress me b/c they loan to very few. That being said, pickings are still slim for non-sample size ladies.”

This is an issue that others, such as Leslie Jones, have also been vocal about dealing with. After last year’s Ghostbusters tour, Christian Siriano reached out to Leslie, telling her that he “dresses and supports women of all ages and sizes.” Christian was, of course, also the designer of Leslie’s gorgeous black gown at Sunday night’s Emmy Awards. Might we suggest he start a fashion partnership with Rachel Bloom as well? You heard it here, first.
