International treasure Emma Thompson, star of stage and screen, the woman who gave Mrs. Potts a second life, and the reason that Love Actually is the masterpiece that it is just became a dame. And according to the AV Club, she tried to sneak a kiss in during her ceremony (officially called an investiture). On top of all that, she attended wearing a statement brooch and sneakers. How's that for a DGAF attitude?

The BBC notes that Dame Emma Thompson (henceforth known as two-time Academy Award winner Dame Emma Thompson) wore a tailored Stella McCartney tuxedo to the event, accessorizing with a pin that read "Equal Pay" and white sneakers. That's right, she appeared at an official state event in white kicks. She received the honor from Prince William, who she tried to give kiss, but she managed to resist and keep her cool.

"I love Prince William. I've known him since he was little, and we just sniggered at each other," she told the Associated Press. "I said, 'I can't kiss you, can I?' And he said, 'No, don't!'"

Dame Emma Thompson joins fellow dames Angela Lansbury (aka the other Mrs. Potts), Julie Andrews, Judi Dench, and Joan Collins, who came to their ceremonies a little more dressed up. No sneakers, but undoubtedly with plenty of attitude. Thompson's husband and two children were also in attendance, but being so close to William proves that she's got all the right connections. Forget royal protocol, she's basically coming over to a pal's house. She was so comfortable at Buckingham Palace, in fact, that she even sang a little after the pomp and circumstance. Can someone just let her ascend the throne already?
