Emma Stone has some harsh words for too perfect Instagram pics

The reality of love and life isn’t always an Instagram post with 400 likes. It’s not your cover photo on Facebook that features you and your partner toasting against the back drop of the sunset. Your days come with struggles. Your mornings are a little crabby. Your social media presence isn’t your best life and Emma Stone some harsh words about Instagram feeds that are all too perfect.

Emma Stone’s new film, La La Land, which was released Friday starring Ryan Gosling, features the story of a failing musician and the ups and downs that come in tow with a creative lifestyle. Stone knows what that’s like. She moved to Los Angeles when she was fifteen and it took tons of time get work. She told Elle she would go on auditions and then “it was radio silence. Nothing. I didn’t get any auditions for months. And that, to me, is more painful than auditioning a lot and getting rejected. Because if you’re auditioning, you’re lucky.”

The film, although a whimsical musical, has harsh realities. Stone says, “I find it bittersweet, but also realistic. It doesn’t all come true for anyone ever. It’s not exactly how you pictured it.”

La La Land explores the notion as to whether artists really can have it all: love, a career, and how those translate into a successful career and a successful love. How do all these characteristics of life coexist when they demand you to have an equal amount of passion, commitment, and motivation?

For Stone, she thinks thats why the film is incredibly important. These struggles are true for all of us. She says, “That’s why it makes me so crazy to look at social media. When you see people like, ‘This is the best life ever! I couldn’t be happier,’ you’re like, ‘Shut up, that is not true.’ Not everything comes together in the best way ever, every day. It just doesn’t. Even when your dream you set out for comes true, it’s not always perfect…. That’s not the reality of life.”

And the more honest we all are about it, the better.

Regardless as to whether the film’s heartbreaking arc will sadden viewers, Stone assures them that “I don’t find it sad, necessarily. I find it bittersweet, but also realistic. It doesn’t all come true for anyone ever. It’s not exactly how you pictured it.”
