Emma Stone arrives at the 96th Annual Academy Awards.

Emma Stone issued a word of warning to the audience as she took the stage to accept the Best Actress Oscar at the 96th annual Academy Awards: "Don't look at the back of my dress."

Stone, 35, who had looked flawless hours earlier as she walked the Oscars red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles in a floor-length strapless Louis Vuitton gown with stunning peplum skirt, appeared a bit stunned when, Michelle Yeoh, last year's winner in the category, called her name.

The two-time Oscar winner, who won the same category for La La Land (2016), had realized she had suffered a wardrobe malfunction as she made her way to the stage to collect the award for her performance in Poor Things.

As Stone hugged her fellow cast members, she began touching the clasps on the back of her mint-colored dress, at least one of which appeared to have come undone.

“My dress,” she mouthed at the five previous Best Actress winners who had introduced this year’s nominees. The wardrobe malfunction was the first thing she addressed when she stepped up to the microphone with her golden statue in hand.

“My dress has broken,” she said urgently, gesturing to the back of her gown. “I think it happened during ‘I’m Just Ken,’” she added, referencing her La La Land co-star Ryan Gosling’s performance of the song from Barbie. “I’m pretty sure.”

Stone continued her tear-filled speech by thanking the team behind the film and her family.

The Easy A actress was nominated alongside Annette Bening for Nyad, Lily Gladstone for Killers of the Flower Moon, Sandra Hüller for Anatomy of a Fall and Carey Mulligan for Maestro. Stone and Gladstone were widely hailed as frontrunners, with Stone turning in a transformative performance in Searchlight’s adaptation of the novel by Alasdair Gray and Gladstone becoming the first Native American to be nominated for an acting Oscar for her performance of Mollie Burkhart.
