Emma Stone Is Engaged to ‘SNL’ Writer Dave McCary: Here’s What to Know About Her Ring
That’s quite the stone for this Emma. After six months of relationship status speculation, actress Emma Stone and boyfriend Dave McCary finally confirmed their engagement on December 4 to close out 2019.
McCary, a segment director for Saturday Night Live, revealed the news Wednesday evening on Instagram with a photo of the pair grinning with Stone’s ring in the forefront. The La La Land actress’s engagement ring appears to be a rose gold piece with a vintage setting. However, it’s unclear if the ring features a diamond as it could be a pearl or another type of material. Whatever it is, the center piece is formed in the shape of a flower lending way to a halo that includes pave accents.
“Emma Stone’s vintage-inspired engagement ring features a lustrous white center stone that may be a pearl,” says Ritani Gemologist Ryan Kelsie. “If it is a pearl, it would appear to be approximately seven to eight millimeters with a floral diamond halo and a delicate diamond band. It is unclear if the ring is truly vintage or created in a vintage style.”
What’s worth noting is that the demand in pearls is rising. “The average industry price has recently increased for pearls. Non-diamond engagement rings have surged in popularity in recent years as many couples prefer the price point of alternative stones,” he adds. “Vintage engagement rings are also trending for their classic charm.”

With Stone’s engagement ring revelation, it’s another indication that the pink-tinted metal won’t go away anytime soon. “Rose gold engagement rings have continued to be a popular trend among celebrities,” says Katie Zimmerman of Blue Nile, who mentions rose gold settings continues to remain the top search on the popular site.
“Stone’s ring is truly unique and may set a pearl engagement ring trend for the upcoming year,” Kelsie of Ritani continues. “We look forward to seeing more pictures of the ring.”
The rumor mill first honed in on a suspicious bauble on Stone’s ring finger in May, after the actress had stepped out in early April sporting the unknown piece. It’s unclear how long the couple kept the engagement a secret.
Stone and McCary first met in December 2016 back when Stone hosted SNL. McCary is also writer for the show. The two were first linked together in June 2017 at the premiere of McCary’s film, Brigsby Bear. McCary and Stone took their relationship to a public-facing level in early 2019, especially after he had accompanied the actress to the Oscars in February. While Stone presented Best Supporting Actress, her proud boyfriend beamed, in turn, expressing his support. The couple attended the 2019 Met Gala together shortly after.

It will be the first marriage for Stone, who previously dated Spider-Man co-star Andrew Garfield for several years.
