Every fashion lover seems to have their “thing" — something they can't get enough of or quit stocking up on. For some, it may be accessories like bags, scarves, or jewelry in all forms. Others might enjoy a specific seasonal staple, such as spring sundresses or cozy winter sweaters.

For Emma Roberts, however, that thing is shoes.

“I love boots, sneakers, sandals, wedges, loafers, and Mary Janes,” the actress tells InStyle when asked how her collaboration with Crown Vintage at DSW came to be. “When they approached me, it felt like a no-brainer.”

And that goes for Roberts and the brand.

According to DSW's press release, it was Roberts’ vintage style and fun personality that inspired the Crown Vintage fall 2022 collection.

“Roberts is a dreamer, an explorer, and a creative, traits emblematic of the Crown Vintage Brand. She is effortlessly chic and authentic in every aspect of her life,” the announcement stated.

If you take a look at the 31-year-old’s Instagram, you’ll see that her style is clearly conveyed across the grid. Bold patterns from florals to polka dots, animal prints, stripes, and gingham pepper the page, each outfit a moment that draws inspiration from the past while giving them a place in our present. And whether she’s shopping for her latest Belletrist bookclub pick in denim overalls, hitting the beach in a green and white block-striped mini dress, channeling a groovy '70s chick in a paisley-patterned midi, or walking the streets of New York in a faux-fur-trimmed coat by Kate Spade, one thing is for sure: her look is always accompanied by an equally notable shoe.

“I am obsessed with shoes,” Roberts tells us, crediting Crown Vintage as her "one-stop shop" for her essential pairs. The label’s fall collection features a selection of loafers, boots, and accessories, with styles chosen by Roberts that range from $35 to $129. While the line is sure to have a shoe for every footwear aficionado, the Space Cadet star reveals her personal favorites include the Emira 2 Over-the-Knee boot (“an over-the-knee boot is a must-have in any closet”), the black Janis Clog, and the Lornita brown loafer — which, she adds, “instantly makes even jeans and a white tee look more polished.”

Her picks aren’t too surprising, as Roberts tells InStyle that boots and Mary Janes are two of the three pairs of shoes she can’t live without.

“I wear boots all year round and my go-to outfit for a special night is a babydoll dress with tights and a Mary Jane.” However, if Roberts had to choose a third category of footwear that’s a mainstay in her wardrobe, she says that these days it would be sneakers.

“I never wore sneakers before the pandemic, let alone organized my outfit around a sneaker, and now I wear them most of the time,” she admits. As for how she’s styling them? “I never thought to wear sneakers with dresses, but it works! I collect vintage denim shorts and I love pairing them with sneakers!”

Of course, while Roberts likes to stay up on current footwear trends, there will always be a spot in her closet for vintage finds. She recently found a pair of vintage bowling shoes on Etsy and, needless to say, she’s obsessed with the throwback style.

“They go with everything, and people are always stopping to ask me about them,” she says.

Roberts’s partnership with Crown Vintage will continue through the Spring, Summer, and Fall 2023 seasons, with the actress lending her expertise on all things design and during the curation of future products. You can shop the fall collection in DSW stores or online.
