Emma Roberts says she blocked her mother on Instagram after she accidentally revealed her pregnancy

Emma Roberts has revealed she blocked her mother, Kelly Cunningham, on Instagram after she accidentally “spilled the beans" about the actress’s pregnancy.

On Monday, Roberts, who is currently expecting her first child with boyfriend Garrett Hedlund, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where she revealed that she had intended to keep the pregnancy news “low-key”.

"I was keeping my pregnancy pretty low-key, but unfortunately my mother has Instagram. Mothers and Instagram, it's a bad combination," Roberts said. "She spilled the beans.

"You have to understand about my mom, she doesn't own a computer and she had a flip phone until about three years ago," the American Horror Story star continued. "For Mother's Day, I got her an iPhone, because I was like: 'Now we can FaceTime and iMessage.' It was such a lovefest, and it was the worst thing I ever did."

According to the 29-year-old, her mother eventually got Instagram, which was “okay at first,” because she just had “a couple hundred followers".

However, Roberts said Cunningham’s following eventually "grew to a couple thousand, which grew to she had no idea what she was dealing with.”

Calling it a “disaster,” Roberts said her mom ended up accidentally confirming the pregnancy news by thanking fans for well-wishes.

“She was like: ‘Thank you so much for the well-wishes, we’re so excited,’” the actress told Kimmel her mother responded to one fan. “It was endless.”

Once Roberts eventually got hold of her mother, she said Cunningham denied the pregnancy reveal had been her fault.

“When I said to her: 'Mom you revealed my pregnancy,' she goes: 'Emma, you announced it.' And I said: 'No I didn't, that was a tabloid.' She was like: 'Oh, that wasn't clear,'" the Scream Queens actress recalled.

According to Roberts, she and her mother “kind of laughed” about the mistake at first, but then "kind of got in a fight.”

"I blocked her at one point. It was my only weapon," she said. "She texted me at 2am: ‘'Queen, did you block me? Sad face.' I was like: 'Yes, I did block you.' Then I unblocked her. It's been an Instagram war with my mother that I never saw coming.”

However, Roberts did acknowledge that the feud with her mother is “a good story to tell the baby."

The actress first announced she and Hedlund were expecting their first child, a boy, in August.
