Prince Charles and Camilla Had To Turn Off Their Twitter Comments

Fans of The Crown were getting very heated.

have called on Netflix to add a disclaimer to The Crown, because they assume that viewers can't tell that the whole thing is fiction, but one major player just tossed her thoughts into the tussle: Emma Corrin, who plays Princess Diana. In a new interview, she applauded Netflix for refusing to add any sort of disclaimer, insisting that fans don't need the explanation. And she had a very good comparison for anyone still thinking that the show needs a warning: Succession.

During an appearance on Variety's podcast, The Big Ticket, Corrin said, "It is very clearly a dramatized version of events. This is fictitious in the same way people don't mistake Succession for what actually happened with the Murdochs."

She did note that she understood where detractors were coming from, adding that most of the people calling for the warning have their reasons and that the controversy "comes from a place of sensitivity and protectiveness of the royal family and Diana."

It's not the first time that Corrin's mentioned the drama surrounding her period drama. In the past, she mentioned that she thinks the show makes it clear that it's fiction that has roots in real events.

"I think for everyone in The Crown we always try and remind everyone that what we are, the series that we're in, is fictionalized to a great extent," she said on the Tamron Hall Show. "Obviously, it has its roots in reality and in some fact but Peter Morgan's scripts are works of fiction."

"I understand why people would be upset, because this is history. And even with Diana, it's still very much fresh, I suppose, everything that happened. So, I do really understand if people would be upset."
