Emily Ratajkowski Tries Short Hair for Met Gala 2018

She might look very different at the Met Gala.

The first Monday in May, aka the Met Gala, is one of the most exciting and experimental days of the year for celebrity beauty. And the first major transformation of the 2018 crop — pun definitely intended — is Emily Ratajkowski.

The brunette bombshell traded her usual long locks for something decidedly different, posting a photo of herself to Instagram on Monday debuting a cropped pixie cut. "Didn't work out for tonight butttt...stay tuned! 💕" she wrote, crediting celebrity hairstylist Jennifer Yepez with the new look. To quell the inevitable comments section freak-out, she added, "it's a wig, guys." Yepez also posted some photos of the look to her own account, noting that while, sadly, the temporary 'do won't be making an appearance on the steps of the Met on Monday night, they're "saving this one, so stay tuned." Yepez posted the same picture to her Instagram Story, writing, "you can literally wear any look @emrata."

Even though the wig didn't make the cut, EmRata's "Joan of Arc"-reminiscent look still feels on-theme for Monday night's gala. Formally titled "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination," this year's Costume Institute exhibit will explore the influence of religion in fashion. "Fashion and religion have long been intertwined, mutually inspiring and informing one another," the Met's head curator, Andrew Bolton, told Teen Vogue ahead of the 2018 gala. "Although this relationship has been complex and sometimes contested, it has produced some of the most inventive and innovative creations in the history of fashion."

This year's theme is expected to be one of the most controversial yet, and it'll undoubtedly be interesting to see how celebrities (and their stylists) interpret it. At last year's Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons–themed event, Emily paired her mermaid-esque sequined dress with long, wavy hair and a flick of blue cat-eye eyeliner. TBD on what she'll wear this year, but it's safe to assume that her 2018 look will be much, much more daring. All eyes on Instagram, everyone.
