Emily Ratajkowski just wore a dress that is straight out of Carrie Bradshaw's wardrobe

One of our favourite places to get style inspo is from films and TV shows, and we have been blessed over the years with some seriously iconic fictional fashion icons. From more recent stars like Emily (in Paris) serving French chic and Riverdale's Betty Cooper nailing the preppy trend, to the 00s era of Brooke Davis, Marissa Cooper, Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf. Not forgetting vintage '90s queens Rachel Green and Clueless' Cher Horowitz, who still to this day inspire us with their timeless looks.
But of course, you can't talk about TV style icons without mentioning Carrie Bradshaw. Portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and The City from 1998–2004, the actress has since reprised her role for the series sequel And Just Like That... giving us even more Carrie 'fits. We love to see it.
And it seems we're not the only ones, as Emily Ratajkowski stepped out in NYC yesterday in a dress that looks veryyy familiar.
Wearing Miaou’s 'Karina' dress, the halterneck style is open-backed and printed with black and white “Signal Ahead” street signs that, at first glance, give the effect of newspaper print. A known fan of the French label, Emily paired the dress with tan knee-high pointed-toe heeled boots with rivets and buckle details. A black shoulder bag tucked under her arm and black rectangle shades finished the look.
EmRata's style had us instantly thinking of Carrie Bradshaw's newspaper dress. Cast your minds back to season 3 episode 17, titled ‘What Goes Around Comes Around’, of Sex and the City. SJP, in character as Carrie, wears the dress when she bumps into Natasha, aka Mr Big’s wife at the time. We can't really remember much else about the scene, but we have *never* forgotten the newspaper print dress, designed by John Galliano for the Dior autumn/winter 2000 runway show.
It's not the first time EmRata has channeled Carrie, or the iconic newspaper print dress either. Arriving at a New York Fashion Week event in September 2022, the model and author wore a vintage John Galliano newspaper-print dress, paired with a Fendi Baguette bag (another Carrie signature) and Proenza Schouler zebra print boots.
And EmRata paid homage to the TV style icon in another of her iconic looks back in 2019. The 'fit in question this time is a favourite of fans of the show and comes from season 3, episode 18. Throwing on Mr Big's crisp white button-down shirt and adding an Hermès logo leather belt around her waist, EmRata echoed the lewk with her own white button-down shirt dress and Black & Brown chain belt. Instead of Carrie's slingback heels though, she opted for white trainers.
Here's hoping EmRata recreates Carrie's tutu next.
