Emilio Estevez Recalls Laurence Fishburne Saving His Life as a Teen

In an all-new interview, Emilio Estevez credited John Wick star Laurence Fishburne with saving his life as a teenager.

Estevez, 60, appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show alongside his father, Martin Sheen, on Tuesday, when Estevez told host Jennifer Hudson of the frightful incident that took place while the two were on location filming for the 1979 war drama Apocalypse Now.

At the time, both actors were 14 and feeling their oats. Estevez recalled he and Fishburne coming across a boat: "He says, ‘Hey, there’s this little boat, let’s go out on it.’ I said, ‘Sure.’"

But it didn't go as well as the two had hoped after they came across every Millennial child's nightmare—quicksand.

"So we were out on this boat together, and we started getting too close to the shore, and I said, ‘Well, let me jump out, I’ll push us offshore. I jumped out, and it was like quicksand mud," Estevez recalled.

"I was sinking, and I just saw Fishburne just looking at me going, ‘Grab my hand!’ and he pulled me back onto the boat," he said.

The Breakfast Club actor noted that he and Fishburne, now 61, had only known each other for "a couple of days" before the life-threatening accident, but that the two "were bonded ever since."

Sheen, 82, admitted that his eldest son didn't tell him about the scary incident until well after it occurred and the two sat down together to pen their joint memoir, Along The Way: The Journey Of A Father And Son in 2012.

"I called Mr. Fishburne to thank him for saving my son’s life," he sweetly added.

Sheen shares Estevez with wife, fellow actress Janet Sheen, whom he's been married to since 1961. The two are also the parents of actor Charlie Sheen, 57, director Ramon Estevez, 59, and former actress Renée Estevez, 56.
