Emilia Clarke’s Role as Daenerys Targaryen on “Game of Thrones” Damaged Her Hair

Fans of Game of Thrones may have to wait until 2019 for the series to air its eighth and final season, but one of its stars shared the surprising and somewhat unfortunate beauty impact that the show had. Emilia Clarke, known for her role as the fearless Daenerys Targaryen on the series, confessed that her character didn't come without a beauty struggle.

Emilia was often spotted on the show wearing intricate braids and icy-blonde hair. However, she told Harper's Bazaar that the hair coloring process required of her character did serious harm to her IRL hair. She explained the reason for her current hair being so short, saying, "My hair was, like, dying! So I’ve cut it a little bit shorter. It’s almost the shortest it’s been. I’m honestly trying to grow out the blonde, because it’s just killed my hair, and I miss having nice hair! I do like the length but I wish my hair was longer."

She went on to confess that there's one hairstyle she's always thought about getting. "I do bloody love long hair, but then I’m always dreaming of cutting it all off and having a pixie cut – but I don’t know that my face could take it," she said.

Although her hair did some suffer some damage from the frequent coloring, Emilia found products that help her maintain the health of her hair. She told Harper's Bazarr that her go-to lists includes a hair perfecting product from Olaplex, shampoo and conditioner from Iles Formula, and Elasticizer from Philip Kingsley.

As always, it's important to remember that going blonde does come with its set of hair challenges. Finding products that maintain the health of your hair is an important step in the hair coloring process and it's always a good idea to consult with a hair professional regarding your dream color.
