Emilia Clarke Admits She Sobbed When Meeting Beyoncé
Sure, Emilia Clarke is a widely beloved actress with one of the most successful TV series in history under her belt (ahem, Game of Thrones), but she still gets just as starstruck by Beyoncé as any of us would.
The 33-year-old former Daenerys Targaryen stopped by The Graham Norton Show earlier this week and revealed what happened when she was invited to Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s Oscars party.
She kicked things off by saying, “It was amazing. It’s basically in a car park,” adding that it’s so jam-packed with celebs that you’re not allowed to take photos.
So, Clarke went about her merry business enjoying the party. “I did not expect to see them in the flesh. I wasn’t expecting that at all. I was just like, ‘Oh, my God. I’m invited. How did this happen? They let us in,’” she joked.
Then, out of the blue, Beyoncé approached her. Clarke recalled, “Queen Bey came up to me and obviously looked at me like, ‘Oh, this is who I’d like to talk to.’ And I just did not respond in the way that I was thinking she thought that I might respond.”
How? Well, Clarke went on to explain, “She obviously came up and was like, ‘This will be cool,’ and I was like, ‘Oh, my God!’ [I was] too many drinks in [and] started crying. I mean, literally, eyes welling up being like, ‘I can’t handle this.’”
Clarke’s fellow Graham Norton Show guests, Regina King and comedian Ross Noble, consoled her by saying that’s the exact response everyone probably has.
Honestly, we’d have just as much chill when meeting Beyoncé.
