Emerald Fennell Reveals What an 80 Year Old Woman Thought About Saltburn

Emerald Fennell is representing the mood of her movie on the EE BAFTA Film Awards red carpet in an Armani dress with a beautiful red feature piece that she says "looks like a bleeding heart."

"I've been disembowelled, but make it fashion", Fennell said to the EE BAFTA red carpet correspondent.

Fennell is celebrating her film Saltburn tonight, which has been nominated for five BAFTA awards, including a nod for the film's leading actor, Barry Keoghan.

"Barry does what he does, and we just let him," Fennell said. "He's a force of nature".

In our review of the film, we described Saltburn as "a repulsive, dirty, twisted reflection on class", and audiences agree.

Fennell says many "dismissed it as shocking" but said, as a director, "it's not easy to make people squirm".

Not only has it made people squirm, but it's been responsible for getting people hot under the collar. Fennell revealed, "An 80-year-old woman came up to [her] and said she'd never been more turned on than watching this film".

She spoke to its universality, saying, "There's no obvious audience to this film".

Saltburn has certainly gotten people talking, particularly the final scene, which has had people rediscovering Sophie Ellis-Bextor's hit song "Murder on the Dance Floor", which she will be performing during the ceremony this evening.

When the interviewer asked Fennell what was next, her very simple response was: "Fuck knows".
