SNL Just Trolled All Your Favorite Netflix Shows
Ah, December: a time for spiked eggnog, cheesy Hallmark movie marathons, and avoiding relatives' highly invasive questions about when you're planning to start a family. But perhaps the most rewarding part of the winter month? SNL turning out some of its best content—and last night (December 1) was no exception.
Hosted by Claire Foy, the sketch comedy show spared no expense for anyone, with Alec Baldwin reprising his role as a disgruntled President Trump and the cast hilariously spoofing the grandparents from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. But it was the hilarious trolling of Netflix's 2019 lineup—the home of Foy's own hit series The Crown—that made us laugh.
At the top of the episode, Foy appears in a commercial parody poking fun at the sheer magnitude of available content for streaming on Netflix. As a male voiceover explains, “We’re spending billions of dollars and making every show in the world. How do we do it? We buy everything!"
“It’ll take 12 human lifetimes to watch all of our content!” the narration adds (truth).
The skit involves several of the cast members sitting around a conference table and pitching potential ideas for the streaming service. “This show is about a girl named Ginny,” cast member Heidi Gardner's character says, prompting a Netflix executive to immediately throw money at her.
"We loved Claire Foy so much, we're sending her back to high school," explains the voiceover. "It's Saved by the Crown!"
"...We've also got that comedy, like Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, or Leslie Jones in a Van Getting Batteries!" the voiceover continues.
On top of trolling Netflix, SNL also poked fun at major cable network shows, like HSN and MSNBC's Morning Joe.
