This Is How SNL Handled That Trump and Kanye Oval Office Meeting

“He doesn’t listen to anyone but himself. Who does he remind me of?”

On last night’s opening of Saturday Night Live, Alec Baldwin reprised his role as Donald Trump—wig, pout, and all—in a skit that mocked the president’s meeting with Kanye West in the Oval Office earlier this week. With Chris Redd as Kanye, wearing his red MAGA hat, and Kenan Thompson as a very-confused football legend Jim Brown, the sketch covered all of the most head-scratching moments from the trio’s gathering, and zeroed in on Kanye’s comments surrounding the 13th amendment and the Constitution.

“Thank you all for joining us today for this important discussion. It’s in no way a publicity stunt,” Baldwin’s Trump began. “This is a serious, private conversation between three friends, plus 50 reporters with cameras.” Trump went on to thank Kanye for his pair of white Yeezy sneakers, adding they’re perfect for him because, “They’re white, they’re wide and they’re never going to be worth as much as you say they are.” As Kanye then embarked on a lengthy monologue about how time is a myth, and how the 13th amendment is a “trap door,” Trump says to himself, “He doesn’t listen to anyone but himself. Who does he remind me of? Oh my god, he's black me!”

This week’s sketch follows Kanye’s infamous appearance as SNL’s musical guest just a few weeks ago, where he went on a pro-Trump rant to a crowd of boos as the credits rolled. Last week, cast member Pete Davidson also acknowledged the awkward moment during a “Weekend Update” skit, where he said, “Being mentally ill is not an excuse to act like a jackass. I’m quoting my mom, my therapist, and my mailman. One time I stopped taking my meds and I bit my mom.”
