Silicon Valley 's Sixth Season Has Been Delayed

The HBO comedy might have to take a full year off in 2019.

Too much TV isn't just a problem for the people who like watching it; it's also a problem for the people making it. Like HBO, a network that has suddenly found itself a bit short on time to get production on a new season of Silicon Valley underway. And it's partly thanks to HBO's excellent new show, Barry—one of the best new series of the year.

According to Variety, Alec Berg, who is showrunner on both Barry and Silicon Valley, is scheduled to finish production on the former series before beginning work on the latter, and so the latest adventures of Pied Piper and Co. aren't going to get underway until summer 2019—which, depending on how things shake out, means that Season 6 might not air until 2020.

While it's doubtless a drag for fans, this is business as usual for HBO, which tends to let shows take whatever time they need, even if it means foregoing a regular yearly release. Game of Thrones hasn't been on the air for over two years, True Detective spent four years on ice, and Veep took 2018 off after its sixth season. You could say that this is a tradition for long-running HBO shows. Welcome to the club, Silicon Valley—maybe the time off will do you some good.
