How The Office Star Jenna Fischer Wound up Wearing a Towel on Kimmel

Well, this is something we’ve never seen before. On Monday night, former Office star Jenna Fischer made her way to the desk on Jimmy Kimmel’s set wearing a pair of capri-cut jeans and. . . a towel. In her hand, the actress carried the dress she’d intended to wear—a far more traditional-looking get-up that apparently never made its way onto her body. Understandably, her host opened by asking the actress what, exactly, was going on.
Fischer’s answer? “So this was my outfit for tonight, and I waited a little too long to get dressed, and then my zipper broke. . . and I panicked.”
It’s not entirely clear why Fischer had access to pants and not a shirt, but as the actress told Kimmel, “the show must go on”—so she sauntered onto the stage in an unorthodox ensemble. “I’ve never been more comfortable,” she added. “I am mentally a little freaking out that I’m on a talk show in a towel, but I am physically very comfortable.” As far as Kimmel’s concerned, it’s like they ran into one another at the spa. Sadly, no one took advantage of the opportunity to say, “You’ll have to speak up; I’m wearing a towel.”
Once her outfit had been thoroughly explained, Fischer told her host about her new comedy, which co-stars Oliver Hudson and follows a divorcing couple that decides to practice something called “bird-nesting,” in which separated parents take turns living in the family home so that the children don’t have to move between homes. She also gabbed about the time she ran into the Kardashians in Japa—Kyoto, specifically. Coincidentally, the run-in happened at a spa.
Fischer’s mother-in-law happens to be a huge Kardashian fan, she explained. She even informed Fischer that the Kardashians would be in Japan at the same time as her. “Ginger, I’ve lived in Los Angeles for 20 years and I’ve never run into a Kardashian,” Fischer recalled writing back. “Tokyo is huge.” Then, at the spa in Kyoto, Fischer saw a caravan of passenger vans and men with headsets. “I thought to myself, ‘Oh my god,’” Fischer said. Sure enough, the famous family then walked through the lobby. “I was like, ‘It happened!’” Fischer said. “It happened!” No word, however, on whether they were wearing towels.
