S.N.L. : See Bill Hader and an All-Star Team Dissect an Eventful Week in Trumpworld

Bill Hader’s second outing as Saturday Night Live host got off to a strong start this weekend, thanks to the help of a few heavy-hitters—namely, his old S.N.L. cast mate (and current Documentary Now! collaborator) Fred Armisen, and 13-time S.N.L. host (and star of ABC’s upcoming Roseanne revival) John Goodman. Both were there to lend a hand to the night’s cold open, a sketch that attempted to recap the Trump administration’s even nuttier-than-usual week.

Alex Moffat’s Anderson Cooper hosted the trio, each of whom impersonated a different Trump-era figure they’d all performed on the show before. After an interlude featuring Kate McKinnon’s delightfully impish Jeff Sessions, Goodman brought back his good ol’ boy Rex Tillerson, currently reeling from being fired by Trump (reportedly, while he was on the toilet). Armisen revived his smug Michael Wolff, already telling embellished tales from his next book about White House chaos. (When Moffat’s Cooper asked if Trump had actually said he was thinking about hiring his favorite TV detective, Adrian Monk, Wolff blithely replied: “It sounds right, doesn’t it?”)

Meanwhile, Hader was once again deliciously on point as Anthony Scaramucci, a character he first brought to life over the summer during one of Saturday Night Live’s special Thursday “Weekend Update” installments—which also happened to air right after Scaramucci’s brief but exceedingly memorable tenure as White House communications tenure. Come for this Mooch’s exaggerated swagger and freshly tailored suit, the first one manufactured straight from the Oliver Garden; stay for his gibberish Italian exclamations, which would make Vinny Vedecci proud.
