Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards Were a Stylish Celebration of Female Empowerment
Glamour’s Women of the Year Summit celebrated all things empowering at Spring Studios this weekend, gathering stars like Today’s coanchors Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb with Mindy Kaling, Riverdale’s Lili Reinhart, and model Ashley Graham. These were just a few figures who spoke throughout the magazine’s event, which was capped off by an awards gala last night. Focused on confidence, power, and strength, the evening was a celebration of the change women can bring about, prompting the crowd—which included students from the Lower Eastside Girls Club—to erupt into cheers throughout the night. Senator Kamala Harris spoke of the importance of coming together and unity, which was amplified by the evening’s special guest, Hillary Rodham Clinton, who was greeted with a standing ovation and countless iPhone photos.
But it was John Legend’s introduction of his wife, Chrissy Teigen, that brought tears to everyone’s eyes, as he described his wife’s ability to connect through her honest voice (and tweets) and passion. As other honorees including Aly Raisman, the Sister Army (Naomi Wadler, Jaclyn Corin, Edna Chavez, Emma González, and Samantha Fuentes), and Manal al-Sharif spoke to the crowd, the feeling of togetherness was never stronger.
