Elyse Myers shares (incredibly honest) list of all the postpartum must-haves you need

Elyse Myers is, arguably, one of the most popular content creators out there. One, because she’s got her own brand of relatable yet understated humor, and two, because she’s just an absolute delight. In a recent video uploaded only days after giving birth to her second child, she’s sharing all of the postpartum items new moms need—and she gets incredibly honest about what you don’t need.

“I’m nine days postpartum. Here is a non-comprehensive list of things that are very helpful for me postpartum—and also with newborn life—that I didn’t buy the first time around but I wish that I would have now that I’m using the second time around,” she says in her video.

Number one on the list? Adult diapers. Because those giant pads just aren’t fun for anyone.

“Don’t even waste your time with the pads,” Myers states.

Next up, a peri bottle. But not just a regular peri bottle, one that works upside down!

“The hospital is going to send you home with a peri bottle to help clean yourself when you go to the bathroom. If you can, just get one that’s upside down,” she says, demonstrating with her own. “Buy a separate one. Because then it squirts up at you so you’re not doing gymnastics when you’re going to the bathroom.”

Her other suggestions include Dermoplast (ahh, you can just feel that relief in your mind) and witch hazel pads for pain relief. While the hospital will likely send you home with some of each, you’re going to run out. By like, day two at home.

Myers says she loves the Medela “quick clean” sanitizing bags for her breast pump.

“You can reuse these 20 times,” she explains. “I exclusively pump and bottle feed, so I am constantly needing to wash my pump and wash bottles and I don’t want to wait for the dishwasher.” Instead, she says, she uses the sanitizing bags, which she can use in the microwave like a “mini dishwasher.”

The rest of her non-comprehensive list includes:

  • A donut pillow for sitting on

  • A hospital-grade breast pump if you can snag one

  • The Haakaa Ladybug, which is even more useful than the original version because it doesn’t hang down and get snagged during feedings.

  • A mini fridge to keep in the bedroom for storing milk in the middle of the night, because it saves her and her husband from making a trip to the kitchen.

Honestly, this list is so helpful. I’ve had two children and some of these things are things I wish I’d known or bought during my postpartum periods.

If you’re looking for any of these above items to help yourself or a mama you love, look no further!
