Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2022.

Elton John honored Queen Elizabeth II in a special way following her death at age 96 on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Following the news on Thursday, the British musician, 75, paused his show later that evening and took a moment to deliver a speech dedicated to the Queen's legacy

"She led the country through some of our greatest and darkest moments with grace and decency and genuine caring," the "Tiny Dancer" singer told the crowd at Toronto's Rogers Center on Thursday, while photos of the late monarch were shown on the screens around the stage, according to Billboard.

"I'm 75, and she's been with me all my life, and I feel very sad that she won't be with me anymore, but I'm glad she's at peace," John continued. "I'm glad she's at rest, and she deserves it. She worked bloody hard."

"I send me love to her family and her loved ones, and she will be missed," the "Rocket Man" artist added. "Her spirit lives on. And we'll celebrate her life tonight with music."

According to Billboard, he then followed-up his speech with an emotional performance of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me," which was dedicated to the Queen.

Earlier on Thursday, Queen Elizabeth II's death was announced by Buckingham Palace, who stated that she passed away "peacefully" while at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

John was among many celebrities who took to social media to memorialize the long-serving monarch with a heartfelt message shared to his Instagram page.
