A jolting update for his fans. Elton John’s health has been a topic of conversation in the past couple of years while he was touring, but rest assured, fans will be happy with the news of the “Benny and the Jets” singer.
Elton John announced his final tour dates for his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour in 2018. In the span of 5 years, he has graced 300 tour dates across the globe. In a conversation with Anderson Cooper, he did the tour “to say thank you to all my fans around the world and then to say goodbye. It doesn’t mean I’m not going to be creative anymore.” He’s ready to settle down and take time with his husband David Furnish and his two kids.

“It will take three years probably,” he talked about finishing his tour. “I’ve been working constantly, I’ve been on the road ever since I made it in 1970. I have had a good run … I want to go out with a bang.” He performed his final date in July 2023, but news of his health quickly became viral.

What’s the update on Elton John’s health? The “Tiny Dancer” musician is doing just fine. A spokesperson for Elton told The Hollywood Reporter, “Elton visited the local hospital as a precautionary measure. Following check ups, he was immediately discharged this morning and is now back at home and in good health.”
Over a year before his scare, Elton put down rumors about his health after he was spotted in a wheelchair at an airport in Leipzig Airport in Germany. “I want to thank all my fans for reaching out to ask about my health, after the tabloids ran a silly story about my ‘looking frail’ in a wheelchair,” he wrote on Instagram. “The true story is that I’m in top health, loving my shows and playing and singing at my very best. I give 100% every night and never want to disappoint, especially after everyone has waited so long to get back to seeing shows. Your response to every show has been phenomenal and I’m loving every minute of it.”
After a “rousing” two-and-a-half hour show, he explained that he and his crew “arrived at Leipzig airport just before curfew, to find part of the airport had closed. It was an extremely long walk to get to the plane, so my team kindly laid on a wheelchair so I could rest my hip after doing the show. That’s all folks.”
The songwriting legend also fell two years ago which caused his last leg of the Farewell Yellow Brick Tour to be postponed until 2023. “It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I am forced to reschedule,” John said in a statement shared on social media. “At the end of my summer break I fell awkwardly on a hard surface and have been in considerable pain and discomfort in my hip ever since.”
The 76-year-old singer-songwriter added that despite “intensive” treatment, the pain got worse, and is making it harder and harder for him to move around. “I have been advised to have an operation as soon as possible to get me back to full fitness and make sure there are no long-term complications,” he explained. “I will be undertaking a program of intensive physiotherapy that will ensure a full recovery and a return to full mobility without pain.”
“The love from the audience, the kindness, the generosity, the loyalty — it’s been like one big party,” John says of the stop on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, which wraps July 8 in Stockholm. “It’s like the end of an era, and it’s a happy end to an era.”
“I’ve had the most wonderful career, beyond belief. Fifty-two years of pure joy playing music. How lucky am I to play music?” he told the crowd during his last performance in Stockholm, Sweden.
“But, ya know, I wouldn’t be sitting here and talking to you if it wasn’t for you. You bought the singles, the albums, the CDs, the cassettes, but more importantly, you bought the tickets to the shows, and you know how I love to play live.”
The “Rocketman” musician isn’t necessarily retiring from music, but is taking time away from touring. “Touring is exhausting for me now, and it takes me away from my family and my children,” he previously explained.
According to Billboard, the superstar’s final run of concerts earned a staggering $939.1 million in grosses. Elton reportedly sold six million tickets to his shows.
His tour is memorialized forever in the Disney+ documentary Goodbye Yellow Brick Road: The Final Elton John Performance and the Years That Made His Legend. Before the Emmys were announced, Elton told The Hollywood Reporter what it would mean if the doc was nominated. “If it gets nominated for an Emmy, that’d be wonderful,” he said. “I’m so pleased about the quality of this thing. The sound and what they did is incredible, and I’m so proud of it. I couldn’t find anything wrong with it, and I’m usually so critical. So if it is nominated for an Emmy, we’ll just celebrate that.”
