Elon Musk and Grimes Make Their Couple Debut, but How Did They First Meet?

Together. [INAUDIBLE] I don't know how to do this. You got it. You're doing it, you're doing it. Eli. Over the shoulder Jen.

Let's call it like it is: At this point, the Met Gala has become as notorious for celeb couple debuts as it is for fashion. The event's track record includes everyone from Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez to the now-exes Selena Gomez and The Weeknd. And this year wasn't any different.

The 2018 Met Gala offered us the red carpet debuts of new parents Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott, Hailey Baldwin and Shawn Mendes, and Elon Musk and Grimes—wait, what?

Yes, as it turns out, Elon Musk and Grimes are dating. No, it probably wasn't something fans expected. And yes, there's actually a reasonable theory about how these two met and fell for each other, even if they seem to run in different circles.

In case you need a refresher, Grimes is a Canadian musician and Musk is a billionaire CEO. (You might be familiar with his companies, SpaceX and Tesla.) Only a few months ago, he was still linked to Amber Heard—who also attended the Met Gala on Monday—but times have clearly changed.

Page Six has an interesting theory about how the unlikely couple came to be. Sources told the outlet that the duo first met online a month ago after Musk was researching a joke about artificial intelligence involving a "Rococo Basilisk" that he wanted to tweet. Apparently, Grimes had beat him to it.

“Elon was researching the idea of joking about Rococo Basilisk, and when he saw Grimes had already joked about it, he reached out to her,” the source said. “Grimes said this was the first time in three years that anyone understood the joke. They were both poking fun at AI.”

Guess that sealed the deal?
