Find Out What Ellen Pompeo Had to Say About Sandra Oh’s Historic Emmy Nomination

She’s still her person. Sandra Oh made history yesterday, July 12, by becoming the first Asian woman to earn an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role on Killing Eve. One person who’s thrilled about the epic nod is Oh’s former Grey’s Anatomy costar Ellen Pompeo, who shared a sweet message about her on-screen BFF.

“Yes!!! So incredibly happy for @IamSandraOh who deserves this more than anyone,” Pompeo wrote on Twitter. “No one can touch this girl[‘]s dedication to story telling or her talent.”

“I was not on my phone yesterday and clearly missed ALOT!!! Congratulations @IamSandraOh this is beyond well deserved and your history making is incredibly moving,” Pompeo added in a second tweet. “Can’t wait to hear your speech!! Which will have us in tears and laughing at the same time no I’m sure.” She finished her note with an emoji face giving a wink and kiss.

Pompeo appears on Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Meredith Grey, whose best friend is Cristina Yang, a character played by Oh from 2005 until 2017. Oh became a fan favorite during her time on the show, earning five Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for the role.

Pompeo has continued to support Oh’s new endeavors, even tweeting a link to a Vanity Fair article about Killing Eve back in April, adding, “This is a great article. @IamSandraOh talent is otherworldly. I was a huge fan of hers before Grey’s and I can’t wait to watch this show.”

Killing Eve stars Oh as Eve Polastri, a British Intelligence officer on the trail of a female assassin named Villanelle (Jodie Comer). You can watch the first season of the thrilling series on BBCAmerica.
