Elle Macpherson might be known as “The Body,” but she didn’t get that moniker by hitting the gym.
Speaking to Vogue, the 52-year-old revealed that she only started taking care of her body properly when after her two boys — Aurelius Cy, 12, and Arpad Flynn, 17 — were older. “I’m not sure I did take care of myself [very well back then], but I do now,” she said. “In my late 40s, despite my best efforts, I started feeling rundown. I tried an array of supplements, but nothing seemed to do the trick.”
Now though, the model credits an alkaline diet for getting her body back in shape after a doctor told her her pH levels — of acid to alkaline — weren’t balanced. “I didn’t realize that stress, worry, jet lag, not getting enough sleep, and eating too much red meat, dairy, or not enough greens can make your body acidic,” she admitted, also noting if she leaves her house without her alkalizing green drink in the morning, she turns straight back because she can’t survive her day without it.
In addition to eating differently, exercise helped Macpherson bounce back as well. “I paddleboard, swim, surf, ski, hike — anything outdoors,” she said. “[I’m] not a fan of the gym.”
